Robert De Niro, JR, Pharrell, and Other Friends of Tribeca Appear at Tuesday Night Awards Ceremony

On Tuesday night, The Gordon Parks Foundation Awards (named after the late African-American pioneer who shot for Life and directed Shaft and The Learning Tree) welcomed a slew of artists who are near and dear to Tribeca.

Tribeca co-founder Robert De Niro and wife/partner Grace Hightower De Niro received the Patron of the Arts Award from perennial Tribeca Film Festival jury member Whoopi Goldberg, while artist JR (whose short film Les Bosquets premiered at this year's Festival) was also honored, following an introduction by Swizz Beatz, who co-chaired the event alongside wife Alicia Keys, Karl Lagerfeld, and Alexander Soros. Fellow honoree Usher and Janelle Monáe were in attendance, and JR's close friend and Les Bosquets collaborator Pharrell was also on hand to perform for the crowd.

To see Pharrell's performance, as well as JR's inspiring speech and other highlights from the night, check out Our Story on Snapchat (@tribecafilmfest). In the meantime, take a look at this gem from JR's Instagram...

A very special night @gordonparksfoundation where i received an award that means a lot to me. Not only because it comes from a photographer that fought all his life for social justice but it was given to me from the hands of artists I collaborate with over the last years @pharrell @therealswizzz #RobertDeNiro #GraceHightower and @janellemonae
