2012 was a great year for film but a terrible year for TribecaFilm.com Web Producer Mark Sikes. He is going through a midlife crisis. Here are the top films that helped him through the pain.  

Beast of The Southern Wild (Benh Zeitlin)
When you are wallowing in a gyre of sadness and self-doubt, go to a fantasy movie. Or a Pixar movie. Or any movie.  

Silver Linings Play Book (David O. Russell)
Any good midlife crisis reading list should include some Nietzsche. After seeing this film, I thought "If you stare into the abyss, Bradley Cooper stares back." 

The Dark Night Rises (Christopher Nolan)
Shortly after my wife left me, I would fantasize that I was Christian Bale. Thats all.

Safety Not Guaranteed (Colin Trevorrow)
This film was like Hot Tub Time Machine without the Hot Tub or the funny. Movies about time machines are probably not a great choice for me right now. So many regrets.  

The Cabin in The Woods (Drew Goddard)
This movie spoke to me. Most of this year I felt like there was a person in a secret room somewhere messing with my mental stability, turning me into an irrational lunatic. Not cool person in secret room. I hate you.

Moonrise Kingdom (Wes Anderson)
A wise man once said 'That which is true is that which does not change'. I have found truth in Wes Anderson's films. When the world is falling apart around you, it's nice to know you can count on Wes Anderson to not surprise you.

The Grey (Joe Carnahan)
Only Liam Neeson can truly understand my pain. Thank you Liam for saying yes to every film this year. I love you man.

Magic Mike (Steven Soderbergh)
Overall great film, but left me wondering "Would my wife have left me if I had those abs?"

Ted (Seth MacFarlane)
If a first time director can make a wildly successful movie about a dude and teddy bear, surely a 39 year old man-child can turn his life around. Right???

The Sessions (Ben Lewin)
Reality check! Life is not so bad. At least I have my health....and a functioning lung.
