Forever Fest: The First Festival Celebrating Girlie Pop Culture
Finally! A festival dedicated to the celebration of films, books, and television shows aimed at the interests of the female audience. But they need your help to make it happen.

When I heard about plans for the inaugural Forever Fest to be held at the famed Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, I realized how few events in our industry deal with fun topics for women. There are festivals dedicated to horror, documentary, comedy, and science fiction movies all over the world, but not a one devoted to female-centric driven content with a focus on repertory classics. Until now. Dedicated to the celebration of “girlie pop culture,” the Forever Fest aims to fill the void for a fandom that is estrogen-fueled and unapologetic about it.
Founded by visionaries Sarah Pitre and Brandy Fons, Forever Fest will take place in Austin from November 1-3. With a campaign goal of $15,000, the two women are spearheading a Kickstarter, and they need your help to make this long-needed Festival the best it can possibly be. Facing expenses for theater rentals, hotel bookings, and flights for special guests, the Forever Fest team needs your support.
Pitre and Fons have provided a sneak peek at their proposed line-up, which includes a 15th anniversary screening of Can’t Hardly Wait with Ethan Embry, Danceoke, a book conversation with Go Fug Yourself creators Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks, a special screening of Sixteen Candles (complete with a dance party), and more. My personal favorite? The Wild Brunch, which is “a mimosa-fueled salute to the hottest men in cinema.”
So you don’t live in Austin? I feel your pain. However, I still plan to donate and so should you! Out-of-towners can contribute at different reward levels. Gifts include Forever Fest buttons, koozies, t-shirts and having your twitter handle listed on their donor page. If you live in the Austin area (or are willing to travel), you can contribute 100 dollars for a Forever Fest VIP badge that provides priority access for purchasing festival tickets and for accessing events. Hurry because only 100 of these VIP badges are available as rewards.
So if you’ve ever tried to apply lipstick like Claire in The Breakfast Club or played “suck and blow” like the gang in Clueless, Forever Fest is the place for you and all your best gal pals. Won’t you help it launch and thrive?
